Our School

The Sacred Heart Primary School is a very busy place. We are exceptionally proud of all our students and want to encourage each one to make the best use of their time here. Our educational programme is designed to help all pupils take their place as responsible citizens, helping to build a community in an interdependent world, while appreciating differences in culture, race and religion.
We deliver a child centered, differentiated curriculum. We encourage each child to be the best they can be. We provide opportunities for the children to participate in sporting, musical, artistic and spiritual endeavours. We encourage participation in class-based activities, school wide practices such as weekly assemblies and community/national events. It is our aim that the children in our care leave this school as confident young people who are prepared for life.

The first Sacred Heart School in Ireland was founded in Roscrea in 1842. In 1962 the old school was built.  That building celebrated 50 years in 2012. In December 2014 Minister Alan Kelly delivered the much awaited and appreciated news that a new school would be built on our current site. In 2017, with great excitement we moved into our state of the art building. Alan Kelly TD did us the honour of officially opening the school in the presence of His Excellency Bishop Fintan Monaghan and our whole school community. Friends and neighbours from far and near came to celebrate with us. The Garda Band played and the atmosphere was electric. We will remember that day and all who helped to bring it about for many years to come.
